Colorectal Surgery

Colon Health

Colorectal surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. Our surgeons work in collaboration with other regional specialists such as gastroenterology, oncology and urology to provide compassionate care for patients with gastrointestinal disease. Most of our cases are done using minimally invasive techniques to reduce recovery time, pain, scarring and the risk of complications.

TAMIS Procedure

For patients battling rectal cancer, Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS) is an innovative surgical option that improves recovery time and limits the need for a colostomy bag. This minimally invasive technique removes polyps and early stages of cancer through the rectum, without the need for incisions in the abdomen. After receiving TAMIS, most patients can go home the next day.

InterStim Therapy

InterStim is an implantable device that helps treat urinary and fecal incontinence issues. By sending small electrical signals to the sacral nerves, InterStim can improve control over bladder and bowel function. InterStim may be right for you if you have experienced one of the following:

  • Both urinary and bowel leakage
  • Bowel accidents with no warning or while asleep
  • Bowel accidents when passing gas
  • Sudden or strong urge to use the bathroom
  • Frequent loose, watery stools
